I don’t know about you guys, but the last few months have just whizzed by! Can you believe it’s 2017 already?! Happy New Year to those of you that we haven’t seen yet! Here’s what Freddy and I have been up to since our last blog post in the summer…
I competed at the Knight of Champions BCABBA (British Columbia Amateur Bodybuilding Association) competition in September in Surrey, BC. Over the span of four months during the summer I lost 20lbs, and tried to learn as much as I could about fitness competitions. I placed 4th in my height class in the Bikini division, missing a qualifying spot for Provincials by one placing! It was definitely a great learning experience, which I’ll write more about soon!
Freddy competed at The Cascade Classic, a CrossFit competition that’s held in Seattle, WA, also in September. September was a busy month for us!!! He placed 23rd out of 49 very competitive men in the ‘Rx’ division, after doing a series of qualifying workouts to earn his invite. He was happy with his performances, and used the experience he gained to further guide his subsequent training. To check out his qualifiers & competition workouts, please see the Raido Coaching YouTube channel: here.
My parents were able to come to both of our competitions with us, which was pretty neat! We had the pleasure of going to Hawaii with them as well in October, and we got to spend the Christmas holidays with Freddy’s families in Quebec. While in Hawaii, we dropped into CrossFit Waialua & CrossFit Maui, and Freddy trained at STADD CrossFit while we were in Quebec City. Both trips gave us a much needed break, with lots of great food and quality family time!
In November, we both started coaching at CrossFit Dodge City in Cumberland, BC, which has been awesome! The owner, Ally, the other coaches, Blair & Tanya, and the CFDC members have all been extremely welcoming! Ally has also given Freddy the opportunity to develop programming for a Gymnastics class that runs there every Saturday morning, so he’s pretty excited about that!
In January, Freddy & I began fostering Audrey (see photo below) for our close friend, Trisha. Audrey has a more impressive resume than Freddy & I combined! 😆 haha. She is the third red and white beagle ever in Canada to win a Grand Champion title in the show ring. Eventually when she is done her breeding career with OSheehan’s Beagles in Victoria, BC, we hope to be her permanent retirement home as she loves to cuddle as much as we do!
Freddy has been away a lot for work since the fall (about half the time), and is in the process of upgrading to eventually be a ‘Team Lead’. When he’s not busy being a SAR Tech/Search & Rescue Technician, he’s putting in countless hours to train as best he can for the 2017 CrossFit Open, which is coming up at the end of this month! Even though it’s been challenging for him to consistently train with all of his travelling and training for work, he still remains dedicated to his goal to qualify for the 2017 Regionals (only the top 20 men & women in Western Canada get to go!)
I have been keeping busy as well between running Raido Coaching, and coaching at CrossFit Dodge City. I have been working with some lovely personal training clients locally, as well as some clients online for both remote training programs and nutritional consulting. This year I hope to devote more time to working on Raido Coaching, as well as, having some more work/life balance- which is always a struggle for me! 😯
I have slowly gotten back into CrossFit, as much as my back & tailbone will let me, and it’s been a blast getting back into that style of training! There will be no CrossFit Open this year for me as my injury is still too unpredictable with flare-up’s, but I’m excited to be one of the judges at CrossFit Dodge City for the participating members.
I’ve started volunteering again at the Comox Valley Therapeutic Riding Society after taking the fall session off since we were away so much, so it’s been nice to get back into that! I also hope to become a better cook in 2017 😎 so I plan on making one new recipe a week, utilizing the many Paleo resources out there!
Anyways, enough about us!
What are your guys’ goals for 2017?
Not just for fitness, but for your health, personal & professional lives as well…
Please share with us in the comments, we’d love to hear from you!
Let’s make 2017 our best year yet!
Jen & Freddy
