Better late than never, right?! After finishing my last school term, I finally have a little time to sit down with Freddy, and look through our wedding and honeymoon pictures. We just got married this past July 4th, and planned our honeymoon around attending the CrossFit Games in Carson, CA. California was beautiful, the Games were exciting, at times, unbelievable, and well worth the trip!
Freddy and I went for the whole week, and had the pleasure of seeing not only the Individuals and Teams compete, but some of the Masters and Teens as well. Let’s just say, it was completely inspiring, and humbling. Not only is the future of the sport of fitness bright (and scary!) there was some serious bad ass grandparents leaving it all out on the competition floor!
Due to the fact that my most recent school term started the Monday after we got married, I had to do homework while we were away. I didn’t get a chance to watch as much as I would have liked, but I figured it was better to go than not at all, and delaying my term wasn’t an option. I didn’t spend much time in the vendor village, but we did get a chance to meet Annie Sakamoto, one of the original “Nasty Girls”, as well as, Katie Hogan and Jesse Burdick. They were all super nice (and jacked!) even though we felt like groupies asking them for pictures! lol.
Freddy and I loved the atmosphere, CrossFit fans are a passionate bunch! The athletes were amazing, and at times, it was hard to even imagine how they could continue on. We were hot sitting in the stands! The snatch ladder was exciting (Freddy’s favourite!) and I really enjoyed seeing the yoke make an appearance, as well as different apparatus like the sandbags, pig and peg board. I would have liked to see more of the team events, as it’s neat to see how their different strategies play out. We have always been big fans of Ben Smith, so it was awesome to be there to see him win!
Big thanks to Marc Mazzocchi of Titanium CrossFit for helping us get our tickets, and our sweet seats. A shout out to CrossFit Downey as well for letting us drop in for free while we were in town. The coaches and members there were so friendly, we felt very welcome! A special thank you also to all of our family and friends who helped us go on this honeymoon by donating to our Honeyfund. You guys are the best, thanks for helping us go on a truly ‘Jen & Freddy’ kind of honeymoon!
